| I. NAME | The name of this organization shall be the Antrim 27 Association. | ||
| II. OBJECTIVES | The Association shall be a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the enjoyment of sailing, cruising, and racing by: | ||
| A. | Establishing and maintaining one-design standards and specifications in order to insure competition between boats of identical design and performance in all the essential areas such as hull lines, weights, and sail plan. | ||
| B. | Promoting one-design class racing under uniform rules and regulations which will test the skills of the skipper and crew. | ||
| C. | Keeping the cost of acquisition and upkeep of the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop within moderate limits without sacrificing high standards of performance and seaworthiness. | ||
| D. | To recognize that yacht racing is dynamic, not static, and that, within the limits of the Class rules, owners shall be encouraged to cooperate and exchange ideas which will promote the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop as a successful one-design class. | ||
| E. | Cooperating with other yachting organizations and, in return, to insist on the observance and compliance with the rules and regulations of the Antrim 27 Association. | ||
| F. | Coordinating cruising and social activities. | ||
| III. JURISDICTION | |||
| A. | The Antrim 27 Association has jurisdiction over all Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 class activities. The class Constitution and Bylaws are binding upon all members and Fleets and govern all Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 class races regardless of their sponsorship. | ||
| B. | Prior to eliminating or deviating from any of the requirements set forth by this document, written permission must be obtained from the Antrim 27 Association. | ||
| C. | All disputes concerning the interpretation of the contents of this document shall be resolved by the governing body of the Antrim 27 Association, and all decisions of the governing body shall be considered final. | ||
| D. | The governing body of the Antrim 27 Association reserves the right to declare any Sloop which does not conform to the SPIRIT as well as the letter of these rules and regulations ineligible to participate in the class activities or racing as an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop. | ||
| E. | The Antrim 27 Association shall not be liable for any debts contracted by its officers, fleet officers, or members other than the expenditures authorized upon written order of the President and Secretary Treasurer. | ||
| IV. ORGANIZATION | |||
| A. | An Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 owner shall join the National Association through a Fleet on whose water he or she normally sails. | ||
| B. | A Fleet is the territorial unit, as designated by the Antrim 27 Association, open to all eligible persons within its area. It elects its own officers which must include a Fleet Captain, Fleet Secretary, and a Fleet Measurer. A Fleet is self-governing in all local matters not conflicting with the Antrim 27 Association's Constitution, Bylaws, or rules and has the authority to accept or reject application for Fleet memberships. | ||
| C. | Owners of Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops in areas where no Fleet exists, and where there are insufficient boats to form a Fleet may, upon application to the National Association Secretary-Treasurer, become an Unattached Member of the Association and of the "Unattached Fleet". At such time when the number of Unattached members in a given locale reaches a value constituting a Fleet, the Unattached Members in this area will be requested, in writing, by the Antrim 27 Association, to band together and apply for a Fleet Charter. | ||
| V. FLEET CHARTERS | |||
| A. | The purpose of a Fleet is to foster and promote the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 class activities at the local level and to encourage participation by the individual members of a Fleet. | ||
| B. | Fleet is also the lowest element in the organization which has one vote in the governing body through their duly elected Fleet Captain. | ||
| C. | A new Fleet, consisting of three or more Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops, may be chartered upon application to the governing body by three or more owners, who must be members of the Antrim 27 Association, and are not within the territory of any organized and chartered Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Fleet. | ||
| D. | Fleet Charters may be granted or suspended by the governing body of the Association, but can be revoked only by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) of the Board of Directory for the reasons listed below: | ||
| 1. | Failure to maintain, in good standing, a minimum membership and quota of Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops. | ||
| 2. | Failure to file an annual report of Fleet members and dues. | ||
| 3. | Failure to comply with the contents of this document knowingly or otherwise. | ||
| E. | Suspended Fleets, members, and ineligible Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops shall be posted in writing and shall be barred from the participation in any of the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 races and activities. They cannot be reinstated in the Association until such time that all the Antrim 27 Association's requirements are fulfilled. | ||
| F. | The Association members in good standing of a suspended Fleet which failed to maintain the minimum membership or quota of Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops shall be reclassified as Unattached members until such time that their Fleet is reinstated. Fleet members of Fleets which are suspended or revoked for reasons other than minimum membership shall have their Association membership suspended until such time that their Fleet is reinstated. | ||
| VI. MEMBERSHIP | |||
| A. | A Regular Member must be a registered owner or part-owner of a duly certified Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop which is registered in a chartered Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Fleet. He or she shall have the privilege of holding office and voting with the exceptions stated in the following restrictions: | ||
| 1. | Only one part-owner per boat shall hold office in the Association at any given time. | ||
| 2. | Only one vote per boat shall be allowed in all voting matters. | ||
| B. | An Associate Member is a person who may be "part owner" or a "charter owner" or a non-owner interested in the welfare of the Association. An Associate member may not vote or hold office; but may, attend all general membership meetings, and shall receive all Association mailings. | ||
| C. | An "Unattached Member" is a person meeting all the membership requirements of a Member except that he or she is not within any Fleet territories. Heor she is entitled to all the privileges of the Member to which he or she belongs and is represented as a Member of the "Unattached Fleet". | ||
| D. | An Honorary Member is a non-Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 owner who has an active interest in the welfare of the class. An Honorary member shall be admitted into the Association by a simple majority vote of the member's at a general membership meeting or by written approval from the Board of Directors. An Honorary Member shall have the same rights as an Associate Member. | ||
| E. | A member shall be classified as a "Charter Member" for his service in helping to establish the Antrim 27 Association in its organizational phase by becoming a paid member in good standing on or before September 1, 1998. | ||
| F. | A paid member In good standing and owner of an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop shall be eligible to race in any sanctioned race outside of his territorial Fleet. He or she shall conform to the local Fleet Rules and Regulations where he or she is racing and shall hold his current Association Membership Card and "Official Certificate of Measurement and Registration" to demonstrate ownership, official measurement, and membership in the Antrim 27 Association. | ||
| G. | Partnerships: | ||
| 1. | Part-owners: In the event an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 is owned in good faith by more than one person, each part owner may join the association as either a Regular Member or an Associate Member; and are subject to the restrictions noted above. To qualify as a "part-owner" the individual must carry at least a one fifth share of the combined cost of purchase and upkeep. | ||
| 2. | Family of Regular Member: Spouse and siblings of a Regular Member shall share the privileges of and be subject to the restrictions of the Regular Member. | ||
| H. | Members who are delinquent in either their Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Fleet or National Antrim 27 Association dues shall be ineligible and disqualified from class racing until such time of the dues are paid. Members who persist in racing before said dues are paid shall be suspended. | ||
| I. | When a member ceases to be an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 owner, his membership and racing eligibility shall be retained until the end of the calendar period. | ||
| VII. GOVERNMENT | |||
| A. | In the event a member of any status elects to terminate his membership in the Association, all fees and dues shall be forfeited. | ||
| B. | Governing Body | ||
| 1. | The sole governing body of the Antrim 27 Association shall be the Board of Directors and shall serve one year commencing in the month of January to January of the next year. | ||
| 2. | The Board of Directors shall be composed of the Executive Committee, the immediate past President, and Fleet Captains of duly recognized Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 fleets. | ||
| 3. | For the purpose of doing business a quorum shall consist of two-thirds (2/3) majority of the Board of Directors, including one officer. | ||
| 4. | Designer Jim Antrim and one company representative assigned by the manufacturer may act as technical advisors to the Board of Directors. Technical advisors may attend Board meetings but will not have voting privileges. | ||
| C. | Authority: | ||
| 1. | If not otherwise stipulated, the governing body shall interpret the Constitution and Bylaws, determine policy of the Association, and shall serve as the last court of appeal in disputes over the interpretation of this document. | ||
| 2. | All issues before the Board of Directors will be decided by a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of those Board members in attendance. | ||
| 3. | The Board of Directors has the authority to enforce its decision by suspension of entire Fleet or individual members. The governing body shall sanction or ban races, grant or revoke Fleet Charters, and suspend members guilty of gross violation of the rules or unsportsmanlike conduct. The Board's rulings shall be binding and final. | ||
| D. | All dues must be paid before a member can be considered in good standing, and payment of dues on or before their due data shall be the sole responsibility of each member. | ||
| E. | In the event a member of any status elects to terminate his membership in the Association, all fees and dues shall be forfeited. | ||
| VIII. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE | |||
| A. | The Executive Committee shall conduct the day to-day business and be guided by actions of the Board of Directors. | ||
| B. | The Executive Committee shall consist of the following officers: | ||
| 1. | President: The President is the Chief Executive. He or she shall preside at meetings, serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors, rule on procedures and jurisdiction, summarize decisions, appoint special committees, and authorize payment of all bills. | ||
| 2. | Vice President: The Vice president shall officiate in the absence of the President. | ||
| 3. | Secretary-Treasurer: The Secretary Treasurer shall handle the Association correspondence, record the minutes of the meetings, maintain accurate current records of members, Fleets and registered Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops. He or she shall also maintain the financial records and securities of the Association, deposit funds, disburse funds only on order of the President, and all other duties pertaining to that office. | ||
| 4. | Chief Measurer: The Chief Measurer shall be in charge of all Fleet Measurers. He or she shall grant or reject all measurement certificates, issue duplicates, and answer all questions from Fleet Measurers regarding measurement rules. He or she shall interpret rules and regulations concerning construction, sail plan, rigging, equipment, and shall make rulings on matters not specifically covered in the official plans and specifications. All such rulings shall be subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. The Chief Measurer shall not approve changes in construction, specifications, sail plans, or rigging. | ||
| 5. | The above officers shall be elected at the annual meeting and serve for one year from January to January. Each shall be nominated, seconded, and voted upon separately by the paid members in good standing or their duly authorized proxies which are attending the annual meeting. The candidate receiving the greatest number of votes shall be considered elected. At the first meeting of the Antrim 27 Association, the officers shall be nominated, seconded, and voted upon by the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop owners present. | ||
| 6. | If an office of the Executive Committee is vacated for any reason, the Board of Directors shall appoint a member in good standing to fulfill the unexpired term with the exception that the Vice President shall assume the responsibilities of President if the Presidency is vacated. | ||
| IX. FINANCES | |||
| A. | The members of the Antrim 27 Association shall be assessed equally as funds are needed for mailings, balloting, postage, and running of the organization, and any larger capital expenditures shall require the approval of the membership. | ||
| B. | The Antrim 27 Association and Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Fleet dues shall be fixed by their respective Bylaws and shall be collected annually | ||
| X. MEETINGS | The Antrim 27 Association shall hold at least one general membership meeting per year. Notice of general membership meetings must be sent to each member of the Association Association by mail or by e-mail with a return receipt not less than forty-five (45) days prior to the meeting to allow him time to authorize a proxy or to vote by mail. If it is a Special Meeting, the purpose thereof must be plainly stated in ballot form as to permit voting by mail or e-mail, and no business other than the stated may be transacted. Only one ballot per properly registered Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop may be cast by the owner or co-owners in general membership voting matters. | ||
| A. | Annual Meetings: The Annual Meeting shall be held during the period of and in the vicinity of the National Championship Regatta, if possible. One half (l/2) of the membership in good standing, either in person or by proxy, shall constitute a quorum at the Annual Meeting. If a quorum exists at roll call, it shall exist throughout the meeting. | ||
| B. | Special Meetings: special meetings by order of the Board of Directors or upon written demand by one-third (1/3) of the membership must be held. A majority of the Board of Directors shall constitute a quorum at a Special Meeting. | ||
| C. | The time and place of all meetings shall be fixed by the Board of Directors. | ||
| XI. VOTING | |||
| A. | A Sole Owner or Part-Owners of a Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop, who are paid Regular Members in good standing of the Antrim 27 Association, shall be entitled to cast one vote per Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop. No more than one vote shall be allowed for any one member no matter how many Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloops he or she owns. | ||
| B. | The Fleet Captains shall be responsible for obtaining all ballots, and shall forward proxies, if necessary, with the breakdown of the total fleet vote. In order to be considered valid, proxies must be received no less than 45 days prior to the meeting. | ||
| C. | The membership books close forty-five (45) days before any meeting or as soon as ordered by the Board of Directors. | ||
| D. | If not otherwise stipulated, a fifty-one (51) percent majority of votes cast shall decide all questions, and the chair shall cast the one deciding vote in case of a tie and may also fix a time limit on speakers and debate of motions. | ||
| E. | Each member shall have the sole responsibility for properly casting his ballot in person, by proxy, by mail or e-mail. In the event that no ballot is present at the meeting or in possession of the Association by meeting time to represent any particular member, that member's vote shall be cast with the majority view of the Board of Directors. | ||
| XII. REMOVAL FROM OFFICE | |||
| A. | Any member of the Executive Committee may be removed from office by a three-quarters (3/4) majority vote at a general meeting. | ||
| B. | No member may be suspended from a Fleet except by a majority vote of the Fleet. | ||
| XIII. AMENDMENTS | |||
| A. | The constitution and Bylaws can never be suspended but may be amended at any meeting open to the general membership by a majority vote of all votes cast. | ||
| B. | All proposed amendments, at either Annual or Special meetings, must be included in the notice, thereof, and shall be mailed or e-mailed to all members at their last address or e-mail address, as recorded with the Association. by the Secretary-Treasurer, not less than forty-five (45) days prior to the date of the meeting to allow time for voting by mail. No amendment shall take effect until ten (10) days after a notice of the passing of said amendment is mailed to the membership. | ||
| C. | Proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws shall be submitted to the Association only by Fleet action or by the Board of Directors. | ||
| XIV. ORDER OF BUSINESS | |||
| A. | Meetings shall be conducted in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order. | ||
| B. | Annual Meeting. | ||
| 1. | Call to order. | ||
| 2. | Roll Call. | ||
| 3. | Minutes of last meeting. | ||
| 4. | Reports of the officers. | ||
| 5. | Ratification or revocation of Fleet charters. | ||
| 6. | Ratification of Board Directors' rulings. | ||

| 8. | New business. |
| I. FLEET MEETING | |||
| A. | The Annual meeting of each Fleet shall be held not later than March 31 of each year and the results of the election of Fleet officers shall be filed with the Antrim 27 Association not later than two weeks after each election. | ||
| B. | Simultaneously with the filing of new Fleet officers with the Association, each Fleet must file a list of paid members in the Fleet along with the respective phone numbers, addresses, boat numbers, sail numbers, and place of berth. | ||
| C. | Failure to comply with requirements set forth in Article I, sections A and B, of the Bylaws shall result in the mandatory suspension of that Fleet and its members. | ||
| II. DUES | |||
| A. | The annual dues of the Antrim 27 Association are payable in US funds and shall equal: | ||
| 1. | $35.00 per year (US addresses) | ||
| 2. | $40.00 per year (Canada and Mexico addresses) | ||
| 3. | $47.00 per year (all other addresses) | ||
| B. | Fleet dues shall be determined by each Fleet and retained for use by the Fleet. | ||
| C. | All members are to forward their dues directly to the Association Secretary-Treasurer on receipt of payment due notice from the Secretary-Treasurer. | ||
| D. | Paid members in good standing shall be issued a current membership card. | ||
| . III. ELIGIBILITY | |||
| A. | An Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop is eligible and considered in the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 class only if it is an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop as designated by Ultimate Sailboats, Inc. (USI) and Jim Antrim, and if it: Conforms to measurement rules as certified by a class measurement certificate. | ||
| B. | Has been properly registered. | ||
| C. | Is owned by a qualified member recorded at the time in good standing with the Association. | ||
| D. | Only an active Regular or Associate member in good standing with the Class Association may charter an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop for a sanctioned event. | ||
| IV. MEASUREMENT AND REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES | |||
| A. | The Antrim 27 Association's "Official Certificate of Measurement and Registration." as issued by the Chief Measurer, shall be binding upon all organizations conducting races for the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 class. A yacht holding a valid measurement certificate signed by the Fleet Measurer or his proxies, as witnessing the measurements, the Chief Measurer officially accepting those measurements, and the Association Secretary-Treasurer as officially registering the certificate under that owner, shall not be subjected to measurement or protest on measurements unless reasonable grounds con be shown to give evidence of subsequent alterations: however, an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop is always subject to re-measurement by order of Fleet officers, Board of Directors of the Association, and/or the Measurement Committee at the International Championship Regatta. | ||
| B. | Fleet Measurers shall restrict their authority to the actual measurements and recording of measurements on the "Official Certificate of Measurement and Registration' and verification of compliance with class rules and registration. Rulings on controversial changes or changes that affect sailing characteristics must be referred to the Chief Measurer for evaluation and presentation to the Board of Directors if required. Fleet Measurers shall not measure their own boats except under the supervision of a disinterested Fleet or Association officer. | ||
| C. | No Sloop shall be eligible to enter any race for the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 class unless a Certificate of Measurement has been granted to said Sloop. |
| I. INTENT | |||
| A. | These Rules are intended to preserve important characteristics of the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop as designed by Jim Antrim and built by Ultimate Sailboats Inc. (USI) or any of their duly licensed manufacturers; and to provide a standard for equitable racing as a One Design Class. Any questions regarding the interpretation of these Class Rules and the Official Plans, and any questions not covered by these Rules and the Official Plans, shall be resolved with the best interests of the Class in mind, rather than any technical construction or misconstruction of drawings or text. | ||
| B. | Except where variations are specifically permitted, boats of this Class shall be alike in hull, deck, keel, rudder, and spar construction, weight and weight distribution, righting moment including crew, sail plan, sail control function, and equipment. | ||
| II. GENERAL | |||
| A. | Any departure by the manufacturer or owner of the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop in the hull configuration, displacement, sail plan, ballast (as for amount or location) and rigging, without prior approval of the Antrim 27 Association would render that boat ineligible to compete as an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop. Proposed changes by the builder in conflict with the spirit or wording of these rules shall promptly be referred to the Board of Directors who shall submit their recommendations to the general membership for a vote within thirty (30) days from the date of receipt of such proposals. The cost of special mailings, if necessary, shall be borne by the builder. | ||
| B. | All boats shall comply with Official Plans, building specifications, and the One-design Class Rules. All measurements, equipment, and characteristics of the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop shall comply with the details listed and described herein. No alterations, modifications, or additions are permitted unless explicitly stated in the current Rules. All other changes, made solely for the convenience and ease of operation, must be approved by the Fleet Measurer through the Chief Measurer and Board of Directors. | ||
| C. | The official emblem of the Antrim 27 Class Association shall be as indicated on the official plan. The Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 logo and the USI logo(s) are trademarks of Ultimate Sailboats Inc. (USI). | ||
| III. SAILING RULES | |||
| A. | Registered skipper for all class events must be an active Regular Member or Associate Member. | ||
| B. | For National or International Championship events the registered skipper must serve as helmsman. For an Associate Member to be qualified to be helmsman he or she must have been a "part-owner" or "charter owner" for at least 45 days preceding the National or International event and have sailed on an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop in at least one class event in the prior calendar year. | ||
| C. | Skipper and crew are specifically prohibited from receiving "Financial Benefits" in any way associated with a class sanctioned event. "Financial Benefits" are as defined in Appendix R of the USSA rules. | ||
| D. | Maximum crew weight shall be 1100 lbs. for a boat with aluminum mast and 1000 lbs. for a boat with carbon fiber mast. Minimum crew number shall be two (2) and maximum crew shall be six (6) including skipper. Number of crew shall not change during a National or International Championship event. Children under age ten shall not be counted unless the combined crew weight (adults + children) exceeds the weight limit by 25 lbs. | ||
| E. | Keel must be fully lowered while sailing with keel trunk lid firmly secured. | ||
| F. | No shroud adjustment is allowed during a race. | ||
| G. | A kelp stick option may be allowed in Area Fleet racing if approved by Fleet Members; but shall be prohibited for National and International Championship events unless approved by three-quarters (3/4) majority vote of skippers at that event. | ||
| IV. MINIMUM EQUIPMENT | |||
| A. | The boat shall be raced in manufactured trim and the owners should recognize the spirit of this requirement. Manufactured trim shall mean that the boat is equipped with all manufactured equipment above and below unless specifically excluded herein. | ||
| B. | SAFETY EQUIPMENT: All boats in all sanctioned events shall comply with equipment regulations of the U.S. Coast Guard or other governing body of the area in which the event is sailed. In addition, all IYRU rules, as adopted by the National Authority (e.g., US SAILING) shall be complied with except in those instances of conflict, in which case the Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Class rules shall apply. Minimum safety equipment for all class races shall include the following: | ||
| 1. | Personal Flotation Devices: one type I, II, or III for each person on board, plus one type IV throwable device. | ||
| 2. | Whistle or horn. | ||
| 3. | Fire extinguisher: mounted; at least two type Bl, or one type B2. | ||
| 4. | Three pyrotechnic distress signals. | ||
| 5. | Bailing devices, including manual pump and bucket. | ||
| C. | OTHER REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: | ||
| 1. | All interior and deck equipment normally furnished with the boat such as drawers, covers, floorboards, and hatches unless specifically excluded herein. | ||
| 2. | Outboard motor of four horsepower minimum, outboard motor bracket, and at least one gallon of fuel. Outboard, bracket,
and portable fuel tank must be mounted on the transom or stowed in the aft lazarette compartment. OR inboard motor approved by the designer and at least one gallon of fuel. A propeller must be installed and may be a folding type. |
||
| 3. | Life lines as detailed in specifications. A second lower life line may be added. This may be used for leaning out. | ||
| 4. | Running lights in working order. | ||
| 5. | 12 volt rechargeable marine battery. | ||
| 6. | An appropriate combination of anchor, chain, and anchor line with a minimum total weight of 14 pounds. | ||
| 7. | Appropriate dock lines, two fenders, and lifting sling. | ||
| D. | EXCLUDED EQUIPMENT. | ||
| 1. | Quarter and Vee Bunk cushions may be left ashore while racing. | ||
| 2. | Keel lifting crane may be left ashore while racing. This rule may be overturned in any event by majority vote of the skippers entered, if, for example, lifting keel is required to reach haul out location. | ||
| E. | OPTIONAL ELECTRONICS: Electronic devices to measure position, wind strength, direction, speed and distance, and to indicate water depth, and VHF radios are allowed while racing. This rule may be overturned to prohibit any specific device(s) in any event by majority vote of the skippers entered. | ||
| V. SPECIFICATIONS | |||
| A. | GENERAL: The hull, deck, interior, keel fin, keel bulb, rudder, tiller, bowsprit, mast, and boom shall conform strictly to the building plans and specifications, and shall be manufactured from Class-approved molds and dies by Builders licensed by the copyright holder, Ultimate Sailboats Inc. (USI) | ||
| 1. | Hardware, equipment, scantlins and rigging. shall conform to the builder's plans so as to maintain the spirit of One-Design racing. This shall permit the addition or movement of small items of hardware such as cleats and pad eyes, providing that they do not change sheeting angles and are approved by the designer or his representative. | ||
| 2. | Each boat will leave the factory matching class templates wherever applicable. | ||
| B. | LOGO: Each boat shall bear an Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 logo on the mainsail and an identifying sail number (usually, but not necessarily, the hull identification number). | ||
| C. | WEIGHT: The minimum dry weight of the boat as raced, shall not be less than 2800 lbs. The dry weight shall include all equipment required by these rules, i.e. everything that will be on board during a race except people and consumable stores. | ||
| 1. | Boats which do not meet the minimum weight requirement shall have weight added by permanently attaching lead weight to the forward end of the cockpit stowage compartment as specified by the Builder. | ||
| 2. | Removal of boat weight other than optional equipment is strictly prohibited. | ||
| 3. | Attempts to lower center of gravity or reduce polar moment of inertia by replacement or modification of standard and required gear is strictly prohibited. | ||
| 4. | Each boat may be weighed and measured prior to major regattas. | ||
| D. | REPAIRS AND REFINISHING: Any and all repairs to hull, deck, interior, keel, rudder, and attachments shall be done in a manner to return the part to its original condition in both weight and shape. | ||
| 1. | Fairing of hull exterior, keel fin and bulb, and rudder except for the purposes of repair is prohibited. Any repair must make every effort to restore the original shape. | ||
| 2. | Minor sanding or fairing of the hull, keel, and rudder to smooth mold seam lines is permitted within 5 mm radius from centerline | ||
| 3. | Worn or faded surfaces may be "refinished" if the intent of these Rules is not violated, i.e. weight may not be removed, shape must be retained. | ||
| 4. | Measurer may check exterior shape of hull, keel fin and bulb, and rudder for compliance against templates. Such templates will be supplied as needed by the builder and retained by the Chief Measurer. Surface shape departure of greater than 1 mm from the template will render the boat not class legal. | ||
| E. | MAST AND BOOM: The mast shall be of carbon fiber or aluminum alloy as supplied by the Builder. The boom shall be
of aluminum alloy as supplied by the builder. Replacement spars must be obtained through the Builder. In addition carbon fiber masts on hulls #6 & #14 are grand-fathered in. |
||
| 1. | Any modifications which reduce the weight, lower the center of gravity, alter the bend characteristics, or alter the geometry of the mast, including all standing rigging, running rigging, spreaders, butt plate, boom, and all hardware are prohibited. | ||
| 2. | Bands of contrasting color shall be painted on the mast and boom to P and E limits as shown on the Official Plan. | ||
| F. | STANDING RIGGING: Standing rigging shall be of stainless steel construction of diameter and geometry supplied by the Builder. | ||
| 1. | Shrouds shall use screw turnbuckles for adjustment; and shall not vary in length or geometry from that supplied by the Builder. Shrouds shall be attached to chain plates as shown on the Official Plan. See also "Sailing Rules". | ||
| 2. | Chain plates will be in accordance with the Official Plan and shall not be moved or modified. | ||
| 3. | No rod rigging is allowed. | ||
| 4. | Headstay shall be fitted with roller furling gear as supplied by the Builder. | ||
| 5. | The maximum length of the forestay shall be as shown on the Official Plan. | ||
| 6. | Fitting of a backstay is strictly prohibited. | ||
| G. | RIG TUNING. | ||
| 1. | Maximum headstay tension with no sails in place is 1000 pounds (499 KG). Matching bands must be marked on headstay adjuster and mast, so that the bands are alongside one another when headstay tension is at maximum. Rig may not be tightened past this setting. | ||
| 2. | With maximum headstay tension set as above with no sails in place, minimum distance from top of mainsail halyard shackle to upper aft corner of the rudder support wedge on the cockpit sole is 12.53M (41'1"). This dimension is intended to limit maximum rake. Note: At designed rake, distance is 12.70M (41'8") | ||
| 3. | No mast bend or tuning controls are allowed other than that provided by shroud turnbuckles and the adjustable headstay. | ||
| 4. | The upper spreaders shall be swept back at an angle of 28 degrees. | ||
| 5. | The lower spreaders shall be swept back at an angle of 28 degrees. | ||
| H. | BOWSPRIT: The bowsprit shall be as supplied by the Builder. Replacement bowsprits must be obtained through the Builder. | ||
| 1. | The bowsprit shall be retractable to a point at least equal to the stem and shall not be capable of being extended beyond 169 cm (66.5 inches) forward of the stem, measured to the extreme end of the pole with pole end on centerline. | ||
| 2. | The bowsprit may not be extended until the bow is two boat lengths from the weather mark and must be retracted as soon as possible after rounding the leeward mark | ||
| I. | HALYARDS. | ||
| 1. | Main, jib, and spinnaker halyards shall be per the Builder's specifications. | ||
| 2. | Only one main, one jib, one spinnaker halyard and one spare halyard is allowed. | ||
| 3. | No main halyard lock is permitted on the mast. | ||
| 4. | Jib halyard must run down the headstay and be hooked to an adjuster at jib tack as supplied by the builder. This halyard adjuster is the only jib luff tensioning device allowed, other than the adjustable headstay. | ||
| J. | MAINSAIL TRIM CONTROLS. | ||
| 1. | The configuration of the mainsail outhaul, boom vang, and cunningham are optional. | ||
| 2. | Traveler is straight and mounted on the cockpit sole as located on the Official Plan. | ||
| 3. | The purchase of the mainsheet is optional; but all parts must be lead to the traveler car, or to a fixed location on the cockpit sole, on centerline and no more than 20 cm from the traveler. This fixed location applies to the mainsheet swivel base. | ||
| 4. | The vang may be used to support the weight of the boom in light air. | ||
| 5. | In the event a mainsail batten is accidentally broken it may be replaced during or between races. Otherwise battens may not be altered or replaced on any given race day. | ||
| 6. | Leech and foot cords are optional. | ||
| 7. | No mainsail shape or trim controls are allowed other than those specifically mentioned herein. | ||
| K. | JIB TRIM CONTROLS. | ||
| 1. | Jib sheet must be two part purchase with blocks fastened to the clew of the sail. | ||
| 2. | Allowable fairlead locations are limited to the track location, housetop padeye, and rail padeye as located on the Official Plan. "Fairlead" here includes the moving and fixed ends of the sheet purchase. | ||
| 3. | Barberhaulers and twingers are prohibited. | ||
| 4. | Jib fairlead slider must be spring or screw pin style. | ||
| 5. | Lead of sheet tail from fairlead is optional. | ||
| 6. | Leech and foot cords are optional. | ||
| 7. | No jib shape or trim controls are allowed other than those specifically mentioned herein. | ||
| L. | SPINNAKER TRIM CONTROLS. | ||
| 1. | Spinnaker sheet must lead directly to the fixed location specified on the Official Plan. | ||
| 2. | Barberhaulers and twingers are prohibited. | ||
| 3. | Routing of tackline must be as supplied by the Builder. | ||
| 4. | No spinnaker shape or trim controls are allowed other than those specifically mentioned herein. | ||
| M. | SAILS: All sails shall conform to the Official Plans. | ||
| 1. | Transparent windows are permitted and encouraged in all sails. | ||
| 2. | Spinnaker material shall be no lighter than a nominal sailmaker's weight of ¾ oz. per square yard. | ||
| 3. | Only one mainsail and one jib may be carried on board. No substitutions will be allowed for any reason except in the event of obviously unrepairable accidental damage. The restriction on substitutions shall apply for the entire duration of a regatta but not a series in which races are sailed a week or more apart. | ||
| 4. | Two spinnakers may be carried on board, a "primary" and a "spare". The spare spinnaker may not be used in any regatta except in the event of obviously unrepairable accidental damage to the primary. In the event the spare must be used, it becomes the primary, and must be used for the duration of the regatta. | ||
| N. | SAIL CERTIFICATION: Each sailmaker must complete a Sail Certification form to be filed with the Class Association and the Builder. All sailmakers shall be required to provide logos and sail numbers conforming to the Official Plan. | ||
| 1. | Sailmakers shall indelibly mark on each Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 sail at the tack, the month and year in which it is delivered to the buyer. | ||
| 2. | Sail measurement may be checked for legality by the Measurer at any sanctioned event. | ||
| O. | RESTRICTIONS ON CLASS SAIL PURCHASES: Only one mainsail, one jib, and one spinnaker may be purchased in any one calendar year, except that two spinnakers are allowed in the first year of boat ownership. The limitation of one of each sail per year shall not be exceeded during the life of the boat for any reason except as noted herein. | ||
| P. | SAIL REPLACEMENT: Any mainsail, jib or spinnaker may be replaced in the event of unrepairable accidental damage at any time by petition to the Class Measurer with evidence of the accident. | ||
| Q. | SAILS ON USED Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop. Any sail purchased in conjunction with the purchase of a used Antrim 27 / Ultimate 27 Sloop may be declared noncompetitive and replaced. A record shall be kept by the Association. However, the new owner is not relieved of any restrictions under these One-design Class Rules. Alterations to the boat and hardware that meet the intent of Section VI, and do not materially affect sailing performance, are allowed. Examples include: lifelines and grab rails for safety purposes, retractable rudders (not to be retracted while racing), vents or interior outfit which do not reduce hull weight. | ||
| R. | DECK HARDWARE. | ||
| 1. | Blocks, eyes, cleats, stoppers and fairleads may be replaced and minor changes made in their locations so long as they do not affect sheeting angles and , in the opinion of the the designer and class measurer, do not affect the spirit of one-design racing. | ||
| 2. | The tiller extension shall be optional in construction with a maximum length (extended if so designed) of 48 inches (122 cm). | ||
| 3. | Two winches are allowed and required as located on the Official Plan. | ||
| 4. | Cleats for lazy sheets are optional. | ||
| 5. | The length and diameter of sheets and control lines is optional. | ||
| S. | LIFELINES AND STANCHIONS. | ||
| 1. | All boats must be fitted with bow and stern pulpits and three stanchions per side. These items may not be modified in height, location, or angle from that supplied by the builder. | ||
| 2. | A continuous 18" high lifeline shall run from bow to stern pulpit OR from bow pulpit to aft stanchion. If this lifeline terminates at the aft stanchion, a fixed lifeline segment must run from the top of this stanchion to the spinnaker fairlead padeye. This segment must be arranged to prevent forward bending loads on the stanchion. | ||
| 3. | With lifeline pulled firmly sideways at the midpoint between any stanchion, no more than 13 cm (5 inch) deflection is allowed in the lifeline. | ||
| 4. | A second lifeline may be added between any of the stanchions. | ||
| VII. PROHIBITIONS | |||
| A. | Hiking straps, trapezes, or other contrivances used to facilitate hiking are strictly prohibited. This does not include the builder supplied stainless tube foot chocks. | ||
| B. | Alterations that violate the watertight integrity of the forward Vee berth compartment or the rear cockpit stowage compartment are strictly prohibited. | ||
| C. | Leads or openings other than closable hatches and vents that would violate the watertight integrity of deck and hull are strictly prohibited. | ||

| E. | Through deck spinnaker launchers using anything other than the companionway provided by the builder. |
