Here's how the rule reads as pertaining to spinnakers: "Two spinnakers may be carried on board, a "primary" and a "spare". The spare spinnaker may not be used in any regatta except in the event of obviously unrepairable accidental damage to the primary. In the event the spare must be used, it becomes the primary, and must be used for the duration of the regatta."
1st question: can a boat define which spinnaker is the "primary" and which is the "spare" regardless of what the other boats have decided?
2nd question: WHY do we have this rule? Since I wasn't at the meeting where people voted on this, maybe one of the skippers can clarify this rule for us crew.
Thanks for your time, Cindy
